Posterior urethral valve obstruction is a severe form of renal obstruction in males.

Neonatal presentation:

  • anuria
  • palpable bladder
  • rapidly developing renal failure

First year of life presentation:

  • failure to thrive
  • vomiting
  • poor stream, dribbling, incontinence
  • often develop sepsis

Diagnosis is made on micturating cystourethrography.

Treatment is surgical. Also look for and treat, VUR.
